For twenty-five years, the Royal Rumble has been the most fun and intriguing World Wrestling Entertainment show of the year. WWE’s thirty men over the top rope Royal Rumble match would be counted on to sell the pay-per-view.
But, this year WWE’s reining kingpin and most controversial superstar, CM Punk, is defending his championship against quite possibly the highest drawing WWE superstar in the world, The Rock.
With a huge championship match, a stacked Rumble match, and a couple of other gems, this card looks to be an early contender for wrestling show of the year.
WWE Fan Nation Youtube pre-show:
United States Championship;
Antonio Cesaro © vs. The Miz – You have the most potential-oozing star in all of professional wrestling, Antonio Cesaro defending his US crown against the WWE’s custom-made future poster boy.
The one may not go long, but with Cesaro you’re guaranteed at least good match. Let’s just hope The Miz doesn’t break out his so-called Figure Four leg lock. If you saw RAW this past Monday, you’re probably cringing at the very thought of seeing it.
Prediction: Cesaro by pin fall
WWE Tag Team Championship;
“Team Hell No” Daniel Bryan & Kane © vs. “Team Rhodes Scholars” Cody Rhodes & Damien Sandow – This match is promised to deliver in the wrestling department, and would be an excellent opening contest for the show. This one could go either way, depending on the future of “Team Hell No”. In the end, the fans are the real winners anytime this four come together.
Prediction: Bryan by tap out
“Last Man Standing” match for the World Heavyweight Championship;
Alberto Del Rio © vs. Big Show – Just two weeks ago, Del Rio upset Show for the World Championship on SmackDown.
With this rematch the gargantuan Show looks to exact revenge and prove to the world that Del Rio’s championship win was a one-in-a-million fluke. At the same time, Del Rio looks to prove himself as the top dog on the blue brand.
If the first encounter was any indication, this brawl may even steal the show, seriously.
WWE Championship Match;
CM Punk © vs. The Rock –
While it seems The Rock is busy name calling, mugging for the WWE Universe and singing jingles, Punk has kept this feud as serious as a heart attack.
WWE’s king, Punk, is the most decorated WWE Champion in twenty-five years. With a championship run lasting over 420 days and counting, Punk looks to go down as the greatest champion of all time.
The Rock, on the hand, looks to go into the company’s biggest show of the year, WrestleMania, as WWE Champion.
The Rock was attacked and savagely beaten by The Shield on the last RAW before the Royal Rumble. So with The Rock coming in at less than one hundred per cent, and with a hungry champion looking to be the greatest of all time, can The Rock survive? Or will CM Punk continue his impressive run coming into WrestleMania.
The Royal Rumble Match;
Sheamus, Dolph Ziggler, John Cena, Daniel Bryan, Kane, Ryback, Randy Orton, Wade Barrett, Antonio Cesaro, and many other huge stars have announced that they will indeed participate in the thirty-man free-for-all for a shot at immortality and the championship of their choosing at WrestleMania XXIX, in front of some seventy thousand people.
The Rumble match also features long shots like Drew McIntyre, Heath Slater, & Jinder Mahal getting their shot.
And of course it wouldn’t be the Royal Rumble without a few surprise entrances. Rumoured appearances include: Mick Foley, Ric Flair, Billy Gunn, and even Shelton Benjamin. We’ll just have to wait and see if any or all of these men enter the fray.
Prediction: John Cena…. Or Dolph Ziggler
The Royal Rumble is a can’t-miss event for wrestling fans. Check it out live Sunday night at 8pm EST on pay-per-view.
